Eylau: Precis Des Travaux de la Grande Armée

Note from Charles Tallyrand to Lauderdale, British Pleniportentiary: August 11, 1806

No.  XXI. - Copy of a note addressed to the Lords Lauderdale and Yarmouth by S.Exc.  the Minister for the Foreign Relations, August 11, 1806.

The undersigned Minister for the foreign relations has the honor to address to their Excellence my lord Lauderdale and my lord Yarmouth, ambassador plenipotentiaries of S.M. the king of England, the passport of mail which they asked.  He regrets that the interruption of work granted to the offices the day of request did not enable him to send it rather.  As for that LL. EExc. required for themselves, the undersigned flatters himself that they will give to the delay of this forwarding the most natural and cleanest interpretation to prevent on their part any species of complaint.  The undersigned will never fear the responsibility for slowness that will have as the aim of prolonging a few days the hope to pacify two great States and to put an end to the plague of the war on the four parts of the World.  The undersigned requests Their Excellence to approve, etc.

Signed CH Mr. TALLEYRAND, prince de Bénévent.
