Louis de Tousard and His "Artillerists Companion": an Investigation of Source Material for Napoleonic Period Ordnance

By Donald Graves

Recent discussion on the Napoleon Series Forum about Tousard's book prompted to remember that, more years ago than I like to remember, I wrote an article on the Artillerist's Companion which attempted to analyze the sources from which Tousard drew information. With the permission of S.J. Gooding of Museum Restoration Service, publisher of the former Canadian Journal, Arms Collecting, in which it appeared, that article is presented here in pdf form. Those readers interested in 18th and 19th century artillery and ordnance matters will find many items of interest at the website of Museum Restoration Service which can be accessed at   www.armscollecting.com  I encourage them to make a visit.
