The French Army in Berlin in 1809: the Uniform Plates of the Henschel BrothersIn the year 1810, the Henschel brothers produced a uniform series of 12 plates, which represented the troops of the French army occupying Berlin. These plates are similar to their work on the Prussian army, published before the campaign of 1806. Like those on the Prussian Army, these plates are spectacular in their detail and show the the soldiers in the field uniform of the French army. The original plates are very rare and are known with the title "Les Gardes imperial Royales de l'Armée francaise". They can be found in the National Library in Paris, in Munich, as well as in Dresden. Those published here been based on the Dresdner copy, which were made in 1904. These drawings originally appeared on line in German by our partner, Napoleon Online and are used with permission of the Kunstbibliothek in Berlin. Please note that Markus Stein holds the copyright on all of these images.
