The blade was 70 cm long and 3.6 cm in width at the widest point. The scabbard fastened to the baudrier by a brass button. The baionette was of the An. IX pattern was 40.2cm long overall. In full dress sword knots were worn. For soldat these were of white leather terminating in a red worsted gland. For sergent the field was gold with a 15 mm wide red stripe of gallon baton lace, for sergent-major the field was red with a 15 mm wide gold band of gallon baton lace, for the gland was mixed red and gold as for the epaulettes.
