Austerlitz Tour: The Satschan Ponds

  1. View from St. Anthony's Chapel above Aujezd Markt (Ujezd) looking S and SW. The flat fields beyond the village mark the location of the Satschan Ponds, drained after the battle. A French battery of twenty-four guns was established here to bombard the retreating Allies. Napoleon watched the final act of the battle from this location.
  2. St. Anthony's Chapel (reconstructed, the original having burned during the battle).

  1. Looking S from Tellnitz over the site of the pond toward Satschan (Zatcany) village. Thousands of fleeing Allied soldiers are said to have broken through the ice and drowned.
  2. The canalized Litava River, looking SW toward Satschan village over the site of the pond.
  3. Looking NE from the site of the causeway between the Satschan and Menitz Ponds.
