The Castle was taken by the Russian 7th Jaeger and Galicia Musketeers, retaken in a brilliant counterattack by the 2nd Battalion of the 26th Lègére, captured again by the Russians, and recaptured by the 33rd Ligne attacking from the northeast. Several further Russian attacks were beaten off, and the Castle remained a bulwark of the French line.
