These images show the area on the Russian right flank, near Borodino village, where the French crossed the little bridge on the Smolensk road.

(Left to right)

  1. With the earthen embankment of the modern bridge to the left, it is just possible to make out the pathway of the old road leading to the old bridge crossing the Koloch River. The golden church dome at left marks the village of Borodino.
  2. View north along the Koloch River from the area of the bridge.
  3. Wooden pilings in the waters of the River Koloch near Borodino. The ground marks strongly suggest this was the site of the wooden bridge crossed by the French.
  4. View westward along the Smolensk Road toward the village of Borodino, marked by the white church peeking above the trees. The white sign to the right of the bridge marks where the road apparently descended to the old bride and crossing.
