In October 1787, he was appointed Leutnant and sent to the Danube front at Syrmia. On 21 September 1788 – at the 1st storm of Novi Sad (Neusatz) – he volunteered to take part. A few days later – on 3 October 1788 – he was distinguished in the 3rd storm and promoted to Oberleutnant. In 1789 Bianchi took part in the storm of Berbier. The next year he was again distinguished in the assaults on Czettin from 11 - 20 July 1790. In 1792 Bianchi served in Hohenlohe's Corps at the sieges of Landau and Thionville and the following year at the siege of Valenciennes. In October 1793, he was promoted to Kapitänleutnant. On 30 April 1794, he distinguished himself at the storm of Landrecy. In 1795 he served in the siege of Mannheim and was then posted to the General Quartermaster Staff. In the campaign of 1796 Bianchi was assigned to Field Marshal Wurmser's headquarter. He was distinguished at the action at Salo on Lake Garda and on 2 November at the capture of Cadine and Terlago. At Trient he and Oberleutnant Döller captured 2 French officers and 52 men. The following year (1797) Bianchi served in FZM Baron Alvinczy's corps. During the battle of Rivoli (14-15 July) he was captured but soon exchanged. Bianchi fought at the Tagliamento River and was appointed Flügeladjutant to FZM Prinz von Oranien in Italy. From 1798 to 1799, he acted as escort to the young Archduke Ferdinand d'Este. On 1 June 1800, Bianchi was promoted to Oberst and given command of the Infantry Regiment Vukassovich N°48. In 1804 he was sent to Cattaro to suppress an Albanian uprising. At the beginning of the campaign of 1805 Bianchi served in the Danube valley. He helped to save Archduke Ferdinand d'Este from capture at Ulm and accompanied him to Bohemia. Two years later (1807) he was appointed Generalmajor. In 1809 he commanded a brigade in Archduke Ludwig's V Corps; he was distinguished on 20 April at Kirchdorf and at Neumarkt (24 April) where he fought in FML Fürst Reuss' 1st Column. He fought again at Ebelsberg on 3 May and distinguished himself at Aspern on the second day (22 May) in the defence of Aspern village against Marshal Massena; the village changed hands four times. After the battle Bianchi was sent to Pressburg to defend the bridgehead. He was yet again distinguished in the defence with 10 battalions, 7 squadrons and 22 guns against the repeated assaults by Marshal Louis-Nicolas Davout, the Duke of Auerstädt on 1 - 3 June. For this he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Maria Theresian Order (MMTO) on 14 June 1809 and promoted to Feldmarschalleutnant in August. After the war Bianchi was appointed Inspector-General in Hungary and in 1811 Colonel-Proprietor of the Infantry Regiment N°63. The war of 1812 saw him in command of the 1st Division of the Austrian corps in Russia. He fought at Podubnie, Diwin, Staroi Wiswa, Luboml, Trisczin, Biala, Rudnia and Pinsk. In 1813 he was with the Reserve Corps of the Army of Bohemia and distinguished himself at Dresden and Kulm. On the first day of the battle of Leipzig (16 October) FML Bianchi stopped the French advance on the south of the battlefield, at Gröbern and Gossa, took up Kleist's battered corps and captured 12 guns. That same day, Czar Alexander gave him Prince Volkonski's decoration of the Russian Order of St. George 3rd class. For his merits during the battle he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the MMTO. In 1814 he was distinguished on 14 February at Cleray and took over command of I Corps at Montereau when Colloredo was wounded. On 11 March his division took Macon from GdD Count Louis-François-Felix Musnier's troops. From 16-20 March 1814, he fought with FML Graf Bubna's 1st Light Division, which defeated GdD Count Claude-Marie-Joseph Pannetier`s troops around Limonest. On 30 March, he was appointed Hofkriegsrat. In the 1815 campaign FML Bianchi fought in Italy; on 4 April he was defeated at Modena by Italian General Filangeri in the clash at Modena. On 2/3 May, he fought alone at Tolentino and won with only 9,800 infantry, 93 cavalry and 28 guns against Murat's 36,000 men and 56 guns (Neipperg's division was delayed in coming to his support). On 19/20 May, Bianchi crossed the Volturno River and signed the treaty of Casalanza, ending hostilities. He was rewarded with a gift of 10,000 Gulden and awarded the Order of the Iron Crown 1st class. King Ferdinand of the Two Sicilies made him Duca di Casalanza with an annuity of 15,000 Ducats and awarded the Crand Cross of his Order of St. Ferdinand and of Merit to him. In August 1816, Bianchi was created Freiherr (Baron). During the Italian Revolution of 1848 the old and meritorious general was imprisoned in harsh conditions by the rebels in Treviso from April to June. Biographical Essay (by Albrecht Zimburg) Being a son of an army officer (Georg Heinrich Ritter Binder von Degenschild [Württemberg, 31.7.1695 - ?] k.k. Oberstleutnant IR 17, Commander of the Hospital in Pettau), it was natural for him to enter the Military Academy in Wr. Neustadt on 24.12.1755. As the Seven Years War raged he soon saw action at the battles of Kunersdorf (12.8.1759), Marxen (20.11.1759) und Landshut (23.6.1760). As Fahnenkadett he was transfered to Infantry Regiment Kolowrat N°17, where he rose to the rank of captain in 1767. He commanded the Grenadier Battalion "Davidovich" and from 1784 on the Grenadier Battalion "Mersics". With 23.8.1786 he was not only promoted to colonel but also took command oft the Infantry Regiment "Gyulai" N°51. In the campaign of 1789 against the Turks he distinguished himself at Porcseny. 1793, already promoted to GM, he took part in the siege of Mainz, 1794 saw him in a fight at Chateau (17. and 18.10.1794) and Mannheim (Nov. 1794). Because of an inflicted injury or wound he lost one arm and was unfit for duty, so that he had to be pensioned. To honor his achievements and his bravery he was promoted to FML and also had the honor of an appointment as a Member oft the Elisabeth-Theresien-Foundation 2nd cl. (1st cl. in 1800), which came together with an additional pension. Mid 1796 he got reassigned at the military court in Vienna ("judicium delegatum militare mixtum") as an assessor. In the period from December 1806 to January 1813 he held the position as Deputy President of the Military Appeal Court in Vienna. He was married to the sister of FZM Anton Freiherr von Zach, Anna von Zach (Pest, 27.12.1749 – Pressburg, 24.4.1794) with whom he had several children. Order of St. Anne – 1st cl.: 1813 Sardinia-Piedmont: Order of the Annunziata: 1820 Order of St. Maurice and St. Lazarus – GC: ~1815 Biographical Essay (by Digby Smith) Born in 1768 in poor circumstances in Zamersk (Bohemia) he entered Austrian military service 1784 as a cadet in the Infantry Regiment N°57. After changing to the Infantry Regiment N°34 he fought in the war against the Turks in 1788/89. He was several times distinguished in action and was promoted to Fähnrich at the siege of Belgrade. The Colonel-Poroprietor of his regiment (IR N°34), FML Anton Fürst Esterházy, and General Joseph Graf Kinsky recognized his talents and helped his career. On 16 May 1789, he was promoted to Unterleutnant, then to Oberleutnant in Kinsky's Dragoon Regiment N°7. In 1792 he fought under Prince Johannes von Liechtenstein. In 1794 Bubna received his promotion to Captain and in the following year he distinguished himself at the siege of Mannheim (19 October – 22. November 1795). In 1796 Bubna was again distinguished during Archduke Charles' retreat from the Rhine to the Danube where he commanded the Austrian rearguard and held Dessaix's (?) pursuit in check at Neumarkt on 22 August 1799. He was then appointed Flügeladjutant to Archduke Charles. He was distinguished at the siege of Mainz and was then appointed Flügeladjutant to FZM Kray. In 1800, he was promoted to Oberstleutnant and appointed Generaladjutant to Archduke Charles. In 1801 he was promoted to Oberst and transferred to work in the War Ministry. Shortly after promotion to Generalmajor in March 1805 he was appointed chairman of the Military Departement in the Aulic War Council in Vienna. GM Bubna was proposed as chief of staff for the 2nd Russian Army, which did not arrive before the catastrophy of Austerlitz. Nevertheless he fought (and was distinguished) at Austerlitz as a volunteer commander. In 1806, he commanded a cavalry brigade in Bohemia. In 1807 he was appointed Hofkriegsrat and took over the responsibility for the remount service. On 10 September 1809, he was promoted to FML. In early 1813 he negotiated with Napoleon in Paris and then in Dresden, thence he commanded the 2nd Light Division. He fought at Leipzig and took Paunsdorf on 18 October. On 20 October he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Maria Theresian Order. He fought at Hochheim on 9 November and was then transferred to the Swiss front, where he took Geneva. In 1814, he commanded the 1st Light Division, which advanced on Lyon. From 16-20 March, he defeated GdD Count Claude-Marie-Joseph Pannetier's troops around Limonest. After the fall of Paris he was made Governor of Piedmont, Savoy and Nice and Austrian ambassador to the Piedmontese court in Turin. In the campaign of 1815 Count Bubna commanded the II Corps in Italy; on 28 June, he clashed successfully with the French at Conflans. In July he had further successes at Forts L'Ecluse and La Grotte. He was then Commanding General in Lombardy. In 1821, he fought against the rebels in Piedmont.
