Maitland, Peregrine (6 July 1777 -  30 May 1854.)

Ensign 1st Foot Guards 1792, Lieutenant & Captain 1st Foot Guards 1794, Captain & Lieutenant Colonel 1st Foot Guards 1803,  Brevet Colonel 1812,  Major General 1814, Lieutenant General North America 1828, Lieutenant General 1830, General 1846.

Early Service: Flanders 1794-1795, raid on Ostend 1798.

Portugal & Spain: Spain 1808-1809 and at Corunna 1809.

Peninsular War: Served with his regiment 1812 -1813 and temporarily commanded 1st Guards Brigade July 1813 - April 1814.

Other Service:  Walcheren 1809. Cadiz 1812. Commanded Guards Brigade  in Subsidiary Army Netherlands 1814-1815. Commanded 1st Guards Brigade and temporarily 1st Division in Flanders and France and at Quatre Bras, Waterloo and Peronne 1815.  Commanded 1st Guards Brigade Army of Occupation France 1815-18.  Lieutenant  Governor of Upper Canada 1818-1828 and Nova Scotia 1828-1834.  Commander-in-Chief  Madras Presidency 1836-1838. Governor and Commander-in-Chief Cape of Good Hope 1844-1847 and 7th Kaffir War 1846-1847.

Colonel of  1st West India Regiment 1830-1834, 76th Foot 1834-1843, 17th Foot 1843 -1854.
