Ompteda, Christian Baron (Freiherr  von Ompteda, Christian Friedrich Wilhelm)

(26 November 1765 - 18 June 1815)

Styled as Baron Ompteda while in British Service.  Older brother of Lieutenant Colonel Ferdinand Baron Ompteda.

Entered Hanoverian Army: Ensign Foot Guards 1780, Lieutenant Foot Guards 1787, Captain Foot Guards 1793,  Major Foot Guards 1803. Joined British Service in the King’s German Legion with temporary rank in the army 1803: Major 1st Line Battalion 1803, Lieutenant Colonel 1st Line Battalion 1805, on retired list 1810-1812, Lieutenant Colonel 1st Light Battalion 1812-1813, permanent rank in the British Army 1812, Brevet Colonel 1813.

Early Service: Flanders 1793-1795 and wounded,  Hanover 1805, Sicily 1806-1807, Baltic 1807 and prisoner of war 1807-1808,  Baltic 1808.

Peninsular War: with his  regiment 1813-1814.

Other Service: commanded 2nd KGL Brigade in the Netherlands 1814-1815. Commanded 2nd KGL Brigade France and Flanders  1815.  Killed in action at Waterloo 1815.
