Ensign 1st Foot 1783, Cornet 6th Dragoons 1787, Lieutenant 2nd Dragoon Guards 1789, Captain 2nd Dragoon Guards 1791, Major 16th Light Dragoons 1794, Lieutenant-Colonel Hompesch's Hussars* 1797, Lieutenant-Colonel 29th Light Dragoons+ 1797, Lieutenant-Colonel 7th Light Dragoons 1797, Lieutenant-Colonel 2nd Dragoons Guards 1799, Lieutenant Colonel Unattached 1801,  Half-pay 1804,  Lieutenant-Colonel 6th Dragoon Guards 1811, Brevet Colonel 1805, Major General 1811.

* disbanded 1797. + renamed 25th Light Dragoons.

Early Service: Brigade Major Home Staff 1793, Flanders 1793-1794. Lieutenant Governor and Superintendent Royal Military College 1801-1811.

Peninsular War: Commanded cavalry brigade August 1811- July 1812. Killed in action at Salamanca 1812.
