Otway, Loftus William (28 April 1774- 7 June 1854)

Brother of Admiral Sir Robert Otway.

Cornet 5th Dragoon Guards 1796, Lieutenant 5th Dragoon Guards 1796, Captain 5th Dragoons Guards 1798, Major 5th Dragoon Guards 1803, Major 81st Foot 1804, Major 8th Light Dragoons 1804, Major 18th Light Dragoons 1807, Major  26th Foot 1810, Brevet Lieutenant Colonel 1805,  Half-pay 1812 Brevet Colonel 1813, Major General 1819, Lieutenant General 1837, General 1851.

Served in Portuguese Service 1810-1813. Promoted Colonel 3rd Cavalry Regiment 1810. 

Early Service: Assistant Adjutant-General Ireland 1797-1799. Deputy Adjutant-General British North America 1805-1807.

Portugal & Spain: Spain 1808-1809 and at Corunna 1809.

Peninsular War: Commanded a cavalry brigade Portuguese Army 1810-1813.

Other Service: Assistant Quartermaster-General Home Staff 1810. Assistant Quartermaster-General Home Staff 1813.

Knighted 1815. CB 1815. Colonel of the 84th Foot 1840-1854
