Ponsonby, William (1772 - 18 June 1815)

2nd son of 1st Baron Ponsonby.

Ensign Independent Company 1794,  Lieutenant Independent Company 1794,  Captain 83rd Foot 1794, Major Loyal Irish Fencible Infantry* 1798, Major 5th Dragoon Guards 1798, Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel 1800, Lieutenant Colonel 5th Dragoon Guards 1803,  Brevet Colonel 1810, Brigadier General on the Staff 1812, Major General 1813.

*disbanded 1802.

Early Service: Ireland 1798.

Peninsular War: Served with his regiment from 1811. Commanded cavalry brigade July 1812-January 1814. 

Other Service: Commanded 2nd Cavalry Brigade Flanders 1815 and killed in action at Waterloo 1815.

MP Irish Parliament 1796-1800. MP 1812-1815. KCB 1815.
