Goldie, Alexander John  (1774? - 25 April 1848)

Son of Lieutenant General Thomas Goldie. Younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Leigh Goldie and older  brother of General Sir George Leigh Goldie and Major John Goldie.

Ensign 60th Foot 1788, Cornet 5th Dragoons* 1788, Cornet 18th Light Dragoons 1790,  Lieutenant 5th Dragoons*  1791, Captain 5th Dragoons* 1794,  Major 5th Dragoons* 1797, Lieutenant-Colonel 5th Dragoons* 1798, Lieutenant Colonel 6th Dragoon Guards 1799, Brevet Colonel 1808, Major General 1811, Lieutenant General 1821, General 1838.

* disbanded 1799.

Early Service: Ireland 1798.

Peninsular War: On staff May 1812 - July 1812.  Invalided home due to ill health 1812.
