Kemmis, James  (1 January 1751 - 2 April 1820)

Ensign 9th Foot 1775,Lieutenant 9th Foot 1777, Captain 9th Foot 1784, Half-pay 1784-1790, Captain 40th Foot 1790, Brevet Major 1794, Major 40th 1799, Brevet Lieutenant Colonel 1798, Half-pay 1803-1804, Lieutenant-Colonel 40th Foot 1804, Brevet Colonel 1808, Brigadier General on the Staff 1811, Major General 1811.

Early Service: North America 1776-1781 and prisoner of war 1777-1781. Flanders 1794-1795, 

West Indies 1797-1798, Helder 1799, Mediterranean 1800-1802, Ireland 1807.

Portugal & Spain: Portugal and at Vimeiro 1808. Portugal and Spain 1808-1809.

Peninsular War: With his regiment 1809. Commanded brigades 4th Division July 1809, October 1809-May 1811, July 1811-December 1811 and January-April 1812. Temporarily commanded 4th Division July-October 1809, May-July 1811 and December 1811-January 1812.

Other Service: On  staff in Ireland 1812-1818.
