Wheatley, William  (17** - 1 September 1812)

Ensign Lord Strathaven's Foot* 1783, Half-pay 1784-1790, Ensign 1st Foot Guards 1790, Lieutenant & Captain 1st Foot Guards 1793, Captain-Lieutenant &  Lieutenant-Colonel 1st Foot Guards 1799, Captain & Lieutenant-Colonel 1st Foot Guards 1800,  Brevet Colonel 1809, Major General 1812.

* disbanded 1784.

Early Service: Raid on Ostend-Bruges Canal 1798.

Portugal & Spain: Spain 1808-1809 and Corunna 1809.

Peninsular War: On staff at Cadiz September 1810-May 1812 and brigade at Barossa 1811. Commanded brigade 1st Division May-September 1812. Died of illness in the peninsula 1812.
