Abercromby, John Robert  (2 April 1772 - 14 February 1817)

Also as  John Abercrombie.

Son of General Sir Ralph Abercromby. Younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel George Abercromby 2nd Baron Abercromby and older brother of Colonel Alexander Abercromby.

Cornet 5th Dragoons* 1782, Lieutenant 75th Foot 1786, Captain 75th Foot 1792, Major 94th Foot+ 1794, Lieutenant Colonel 112th Foot^ 1794, Lieutenant Colonel 53rd Foot 1795,  Brevet Colonel 1800,  Major General 1805, Lieutenant General Bombay Presidency 1810, Lieutenant General 1812.

*disbanded 1799. +disbanded 1796. ^disbanded 1795.

Service 1793-1815:  Brigade Major Flanders 1793-1795, West Indies 1795-1797, Deputy Adjutant-General Mediterranean 1800 and Egypt 1801. Commander-in-Chief Bombay Presidency India 1809-1812 and captured Mauritius 1810,   Commander-in-Chief Madras Presidency India 1813-1814.

MP 1815-1817.   KCB1815. GCB 1815.

Colonel of the 53rd Foot 1807-1817.
