Erskine, William (1727/1728? -  25 March 1795)

Son of Colonel William Erskine.

Cornet 7th  Dragoons* 1743,>Lieutenant 7th Dragoons* 1745,Captain 7th Dragoons* 1755,> Major 15th Light Dragoons 1759, Brevet Lieutenant Colonel 1762,  Lieutenant Colonel 15th Light Dragoons 1762, Lieutenant  Colonel 71st Foot 1775, Colonel North America 1776, Colonel 1777,   Brigadier General on the Staff 1777-1779, Major General 1779, Lieutenant General 1787.

*became 7th Light Dragoons 1783.

Early Service: Continent 1745, Seven Years War 1759-1762. North America 1776-1779 and Quartermaster-General 1776-1779.  

Service 1793-1815: Flanders 1794-1795. Died before taking up a staff appointment in Ireland.

Aide-de-Camp to the King 1779.

Knight 1763. Created a baronet 1791. Colonel of the 80th Regiment 1777-1782,  26th Foot 1782-1795.
