Floyd, John (22 February 1748 - 10 January 1818)

Son of Captain John Floyd.

Cornet 15th Light Dragoons 1760, Lieutenant 15th Light Dragoons 1763, Captain-Lieutenant 15th Light Dragoons 1770, Captain 15th Light Dragoons 1778, Major 21st Light Dragoons* 1779, Lieutenant Colonel 23rd Light Dragoons+ 1781, Colonel India 1782,  Brevet Colonel 1790,  Brigadier General on the Staff. Major General 1794, Lieutenant General 1801, General 1812.

*disbanded 1783. +renumbered 19th Light Dragoons 1786 and disbanded 1821.

Early Service: on continent Seven Years War 1760-1761.

Service 1793-1815:  Bengal & Madras Presidencies India 1781-1800 and wounded 1791 and in  3rd Mysore War and 4th Mysore War and at both captures of Seringapatam 1792 and 1799, on staff Ireland 1803-1806 and 1809-1812.

Created a baronet 1816.

Colonel of the 26th (23rd 1803) Light Dragoons 1800-1804, 8th Light Dragoons 1804-1818.
