Fraser, John (1759/1760 - 14 November 1843)

Lieutenant 73rd Foot 1778, Captain 76th Foot 1783, Captain Independent Company of Invalids 1784, Captain Independent Company 1794, Brevet Major 1794,  Lieutenant Colonel in Podmore’s Regiment* 1794, Lieutenant Colonel Royal Garrison Battalion+ 1795, Brevet Colonel 1800, Brigadier General on Staff 1808, Major General 1808, Lieutenant General 1813, General 1830.

*disbanded c.1796   +disbanded c.1802

Early Service: in the fleet 1780, Siege of Gibraltar 1780-1782 and severely wounded (loss of leg).

Service 1793-1815: Gibraltar 1796-1798, commanding Goree, Senegal 1801-1804 and surrendered garrison and prisoner of war 1804. On staff Goree 1806-1808, Guernsey 1808-1809, Gibraltar 1809-1813 and commanded at Ceuta.

Knight 1826. GCH 1832.

Lieutenant Colonel Commandant and Colonel of Royal African Corps (later Royal York Rangers) 1800-1819
