Green, Charles (18 December 1749 - 12 July 1831)

Son of  Captain Christopher Green. Brother of Lieutenant Nicholas Green.

Cadet Royal Artillery 1760, Ensign  31st Foot 1765, Lieutenant 31st Foot  1769, Captain-Lieutenant  31st Foot  1774, Captain  31st Foot 1775,  Brevet Major 1783, Major 31st Foot  1788, Lieutenant Colonel  95th Foot* 1793, Lieutenant Colonel 30th Foot 1794, Brevet  Colonel 1797,  Brigadier General West Indies 1798, Brigadier General on Staff  1803, Major General 1803, Lieutenant General 1809,  General 1819.

*disbanded 1796

Early Service: North America 1766-1770, West Indies 1771- 1773, North America 1776-1778, wounded and prisoner of war 1777-1778,  Aide-de-Camp  Scotland  1778-1780, North America 1780-1783 and Brigade Major 1781.

Service 1793-1815: Corsica 1794-1796 and Inspector-General of the Corsican Troops.  Governor of Granada 1796-1801.  On staff Ireland 1803, Home Staff 1803-1804, West Indies 1804 -1805, captured Surinam 1804 and its Governor. Commanded  Malta 1807-1808,   on Home Staff  1812-1814.

Knight 1803.  Created a baronet 1805.

Colonel of  York Light Infantry Volunteers 1804-1808, 16th Foot 1808-1814, 37th Foot 1814-1831.
