Harcourt, William (20 March 1743 - 17 June 1830)

Son of 1st Earl Harcourt.

Ensign 1st Foot Guards 1759, Captain 16th Light Dragoons 1759, Captain 3rd Dragoons 1760, Lieutenant Colonel 31st Foot 1764, Lieutenant Colonel 4th Light Dragoons* 1765, Lieutenant Colonel 2nd Light Dragoons+ 1768, Brevet Colonel 1777,  Major General 1782, Lieutenant General 1793, General 1798, Field Marshal 1821.

* became 18th Light Dragoons 1769 and disbanded 1821. + became 16th Light Dragoons 1769.

Early Service: Aide-de-Camp Havana Seven Years War 1762. North America 1776-1777.

Service 1793-1815: Flanders 1793-1795 as second in command and then acted as Commander-in-Chief. Governor of Royal Military College 1801-1811.

ADC to the King 1777. MP 1768-1774. GCB 1820. Succeeded as 3rd Earl Harcourt 1809.

Colonel of the 16th Light Dragoons 1779-1830
