Huntly,  George Gordon Marquess of (2 February 1770 - 28 May 1836)

Eldest son of 4th Duke of Gordon. Brother of Major Lord Alexander Gordon.

Styled as Marquess of Huntly 1770-1827. Also sometimes as Marquis of Huntly or Huntley.

Ensign 35th Foot 1790, Lieutenant 67th Foot 1790, Captain Independent Company 1791, Captain 42nd Foot 1791, Captain-Lieutenant & Lieutenant Colonel  3rd Foot Guards 1792, Captain & Lieutenant Colonel 3rd Foot Guards 1794,  Lieutenant Colonel 100th Foot* 1794, Brevet Colonel 1796,  Major General 1801, Lieutenant General 1808, General 1819.

*renumbered 92nd Foot 1798.

Service 1793-1815: Flanders 1793, Gibraltar 1794-1795, Corsica 1795-1796, Brigadier in Ireland 1798,  Helder 1799 and wounded, Home Staff 1803-1806,  a division on Walcheren 1809.

MP 1806-1807. Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeen 1808-1836.

GCB 1820. KG 1812. Succeeded as 5th Duke of Gordon 1827.

Colonel Commandant of 100th Foot 1793-1798. Colonel of the 92nd Foot 1798-1806,  42nd Foot 1806-1820, 1st Foot 1820-1834,  Scots Fusilier Guards 1834-1836.
