Ensign 59th Foot 1789, Lieutenant 59th Foot 1793,  Captain 81st Foot 1793, Major 113th Foot* 1794, Lieutenant Colonel 113th Foot* 1794, Half-pay 1795, Lieutenant Colonel 72nd Foot 1798, Brevet Colonel 1800, Brigadier General on the Staff 1804, Major General 1808, Lieutenant General 1813, General 1830.

*disbanded 1795.

Service 1793-1815:  on Home Staff 1804-1808 and  Baltic 1807, Sicily 1808-1815  and at capture of Genoa 1814 and commanding in Genoa 1815. On staff Ionian Islands 1816.

KCB 1817. GCH 1816.

Colonel of the 98th (97th -1816) Foot 1816-1818,  89th Foot 1823-1837, 32nd Foot 1837-1843.
