Nugent, George (10 June 1757 - 11 March 1849)

Brother of Admiral Sir Charles Nugent and both believed to be  natural sons of  Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Nugent.

Ensign 39th Foot 1773, Lieutenant 7th Foot 1775, Captain 57th Foot 1778, Major 57th Foot 1782, Lieutenant Colonel 97th Foot* 1783, Half-pay, Lieutenant Colonel 13th Foot 1787, Lieutenant Colonel 4th Dragoon Guards 1789, Captain &  Lieutenant Colonel Coldstream Foot Guards 1790, Lieutenant Colonel 85th Foot 1794, Brevet Colonel 1793,  Brigadier General on the Staff 1795, Major General 1796, Lieutenant General Jamaica 1802, Lieutenant General 1803, General 1813, Field Marshal 1846.

*disbanded 1784.

Early Service: Gibraltar 1774-1776,  North America 1777-1783.

Service 1793-1815: Flanders 1793-1794 as Brigadier General 1794, Ireland 1795-1801 and  Adjutant-General 1799-1801, Lieutenant Governor and Commander-in-Chief Jamaica 1801-1806, on Home Staff 1806-1809. Commander-in-Chief India 1812-1813 and Provincial Commander-in-Chief India 1813-1814.

MP 1790-1802, 1806-1812, 1818-1832.

KB 1813. GCB 1815. Created a Baronet 1806.

Lieutenant Colonel Commandant and Colonel of the 85th Foot 1794-1805, 62nd Foot 1805-1806, 6th Foot 1806-1849.
