Torrens, Henry (1779 - 23 August 1828)

Older brother of  Captain Thomas Torrens.

Ensign 52nd Foot 1793, Lieutenant 92nd Foot* 1794,  Lieutenant 63rd Foot 1795, Captain 6th West India Regiment+ 1797, Captain 20th Foot 1799, Major Surrey Rangers Fencible Infantry^ 1799,  Major 86th Foot 1802,  Major 89th 1807, Brevet Lieutenant Colonel 1805, Captain & Lieutenant Colonel 3rd Foot Guards 1811,  Brevet Colonel 1812, Major General 1814.

* disbanded 1795. +disbanded 1817. ^disbanded 1802.

Early Service: West Indies 1795-1798 and wounded. Aide-de-Camp Home Staff 1798, Aide-de-Camp Portugal 1798,  Helder 1799 and wounded, British North America 1800-1801, Egypt 1801, India 1801-1803, 1803-1805,  Assistant Adjutant-General Home Staff 1805, Military Secretary South America 1807,  Assistant Military Secretary to Commander-in-Chief 1807.

Portugal and Spain: Military Secretary to Lieutenant General Wellesley 1808 and at Vimeiro 1808.

Other Service:  Assistant Military Secretary to Commander-in-Chief 1808,  Military Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief  1809-1820. Adjutant-General to the forces 1820-1828.

Aide-de-Camp to The Prince Regent 1812. KCB 1815.

Colonel of the 2nd Garrison Battalion 1815,  Royal African Corps 1815-1818,  2nd West India Regiment 1818-1822,  2nd Regiment of Foot 1822-1828.
