Muter, Joseph (1777 - 3 October 1840)

Brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Muter.

Changed name to Straton 1816.

Cornet 2nd Dragoon Guards 1794, Lieutenant 2nd Dragoon Guards 1795, Captain 13th Light Dragoons 1797, Major 13th Light Dragoons 1801,  Brevet Lieutenant Colonel 1808, Lieutenant Colonel 6th  Dragoons 1813, Brevet Colonel 1814, Major General 1825, Lieutenant General 1838.

Early Service: attended Royal Military College 1804-1805.

Peninsular War: with regiment 1810-1812.

Other Service: with regiment Flanders and France 1815 and wounded Waterloo. Succeeded to command 2nd Cavalry Brigade 1815.

CB 1815. Knt. 1832. KCH 1832.

Colonel 17th Light Dragoons 1839-1839, 8th Light Dragoons 1839-1840, 6th Dragoons 1840-1840.
