Ensign 83rd Foot* 1781, Lieutenant 83rd Foot* 1783, Half-pay 1783-1787, Lieutenant 19th Foot 1787,     Half-pay,  Lieutenant 14th Foot 1788, Captain-Lieutenant 90th Foot 1794,  Major 90th Foot 1794,  Brevet Lieutenant Colonel 1798, Lieutenant Colonel 44th Foot 1801,  Lieutenant-Colonel 52nd Foot 1803, Lieutenant Colonel 91st Foot 1808,  Half-pay 1808, Brevet Colonel 1808, Major General 1811, Lieutenant General 1821.

* disbanded 1783.

Early Service: North America 1783, West Indies 1788- 1791, Portugal as local Lieutenant Colonel 1796. Deputy Adjutant-General Mediterranean 1799, Egypt 1801-1802.

Peninsular War: On staff at Cadiz 1810-1811.

Other Service: On Home Staff 1811-1813. Commanded a brigade and then a division The Netherlands 1813-1814. Commanded a brigade The Netherlands 1814-1815. Commanded 7th Brigade in Flanders 1815. Created a Baronet 1831. Colonel of the 58th Foot 1828-1833.
