Craufurd, James Catlin (23 January 1776  - 25 September 1810 )

Natural son of Lieutenant Colonel James Craufurd.

 

Ensign 24th Foot 1791, Lieutenant Independent Company 1793, Captain Independent Company 1793, Captain 30th Foot 1793,  Major Unattached 1795, Major 98th Foot* 1796, Lieutenant Colonel 98th Foot* 1797, Brevet Colonel 1805, Brigadier General on the Staff 1808, 1809-1810.  * renumbered 91st Foot 1798.

 

Early service:  Hanover 1805. Commanded a brigade Home Staff 1808.

 

Portugal & Spain: Commanded 5th Brigade Portugal and at  Vimeiro 1808. Commanded brigade Portugal 1808 and a brigade Spain 1808-1809 and at Corunna 1809.

 

Peninsular War:  Commanded  brigade July -  September 1809 and brigade 2nd Division September 1809 - September 1810. Died of illness in the Peninsula 1810.

 

Other service: Brigade Home Staff 1809.
