Moore, John (13 November 1761- 16 January 1809)

Older brother of Admiral Sir Graham Moore.

Ensign 51st Foot 1776, Captain-Lieutenant 82nd Foot* 1778, Captain 82nd Foot* 1782, Half-pay 1783-1785, Captain 100th Foot+  1785, Major 102nd Foot+  1785, Half-pay 1785-1788, Major 60th Foot 1788, Major 51st Foot 1788, Lieutenant Colonel 51st Foot 1790,  Brevet Colonel 1795, Brigadier General on the Staff 1796-1798, Major General 1798,  Lieutenant General 1805.  * disbanded 1784.  + disbanded 1785.

Early service: Minorca 1777-1778, North America 1779-1783, Ireland 1788-1792, Gibraltar 1792-1793, Toulon 1793,  brigade Corsica 1794 and wounded, Adjutant General Corsica 1794-1795, brigade West Indies 1796-1797,  brigade Ireland 1797-1798 on Home Staff 1799, brigade Helder 1799 and wounded, Mediterranean 1800, reserve force in Egypt 1801-1802 and wounded, Home Staff 1802-1806 and commanded training camp at Shorncliffe 1804-1805. Second-in-Command Sicily 1806-1807. Commanded force in Mediterranean 1807-1808. Commanded force Sweden 1808.

Portugal & Spain: Commanded 1st Division Portugal 1808. Commander-in-Chief of army in Spain 1808-1809.

Mortally wounded and died of wounds at Corunna 1809.

MP 1784-1790. KB 1804. Colonel of the 9th West India Regiment 1798-1799, Colonel Commandant of 1st Battalion 52nd Foot 1799-1801, Colonel of 52nd Foot 1801-1809.
