Elphinstone, Howardá (4 March 1773 - 28 April 1846)

Son of Captain John Elphinstone RN, laterá Lieutenant General and Vice-Admiral in Russian Service.

Gentleman Cadet Royal Military Academy Woolwich, 2nd Lieutenant Royal Artillery 1793, 2nd Lieutenant Royal Engineers 1793, 1st Lieutenant Royal Engineers 1796, Captain-Lieutenant Royal Engineers 1800, 2nd Captain Royal Engineers 1800, Captain Royal Engineers 1805, Brevetá Major 1812, Lieutenant-Colonel Royal Engineers 1813, Colonel Royal Engineers 1824,á Major General 1837.

Early Service: Cape of Good Hope 1795, India 1800, with force from India in Egyptian Campaign 1801-1802, South America 1807.

Portugal & Spain: Portugal 1808-1809 and wounded Roliša August 1808.

Peninsular War: With Royal Engineers 1812-1813. Commanded Royal Engineers August 1813 - April 1814.

Other Service: on Home Staff 1810. On staff Malta 1832-1834.

CB 1815. Created a Baronet 1816. Colonel Commandant Royal Engineers 1834.
