Anson, William  (13 August 1772 - 14 January 1847)

Younger brother of General Sir George Anson.

Ensign 1st Foot Guards 1789, Lieutenant & Captain 1st Foot Guards 1793,  Captain &  Lieutenant-Colonel 1st Foot Guards 1797, Brevet Colonel 1805, Major General 1811, Lieutenant General 1819, General 1837.

Early Service: Flanders 1793-1794, Sicily 1806-1808.

Portugal & Spain: Spain 1808-1809 and at Corunna 1809.

Peninsular War: Commanded brigade 4th Division July 1812, October 1812-April 1814. Temporarily commanded 4th Division April-July 1812 and July-October 1812.

Other service: On Walcheren 1809.

KCB 1815.  Created Baronet 1831. Colonel of 66th Foot 1829-1835, 47th Foot 1835-1847.
