Madden, George Allan  (3 January 1771 -  8 December 1828)

Cornet 14th Light Dragoons 1789, Lieutenant 12th Light Dragoons 1791, Captain 12th Light Dragoons 1793, Major 12th Light Dragoons 1800. Resigned army 1802. Temporary Lieutenant Colonel 1805 (renewed in 1807). Reinstated in the army as Major 1812, promoted  Lieutenant Colonel 1812 (antedated to 1805), Brevet Colonel 1813, Major General 1819. 

Served in Portuguese Service 1809-1814. Promoted Brigadier 1809, Major General 1813.

Early Service: Mediterranean 1794, Corsica 1794, Portugal 1797-1800, Egypt 1801. Inspecting Field Officer Yeoman Cavalry and Volunteers Home Staff 1805-1809.

Peninsular War: Commanded a cavalry brigade Portuguese Army 1809-1812. Commanded a brigade Portuguese Army 1812-1813 and temporarily commanded 6th Division July or August 1813.

Knighted 1816. CB 1815.
