Somerset, Lord Robert Edward Henry  (19 December 1776 - 1 September 1842)

3rd son of 5th Duke of Beaufort. Younger brother of General Lord Charles Somerset and older brother of Captain Lord Arthur Somerset, Major Lord William Somerset, Colonel Lord John Somerset and Field Marshal Fitzroy Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan.

Styled as Lord Edward Somerset.

Cornet 10th Light Dragoons 1793,  Lieutenant 10th Light Dragoons 1793, Captain 10th Light Dragoons 1794, Major 20th Light Dragoons 1799, Major 12th Light Dragoons 1799, Major 28th Light Dragoons* 1800, Lieutenant-Colonel 5th Foot 1800, Lieutenant-Colonel 4th Dragoons 1801, Brevet Colonel 1810, Major General 1813, Lieutenant General 1825, General 1841.

* disbanded 1802.

Early Service: Aide De Camp Helder 1799, Portugal 1799-1800.

Peninsular War: Served with his regiment from 1809. Commanded cavalry brigade July 1813-April 1814.

Other Service: Commanded 1st Cavalry Brigade Flanders and France and at Waterloo 1815. Commanded 1st Cavalry Brigade Army of Occupation France 1815-1818. Inspector General of cavalry 1818-1825. Lieutenant General of the Ordnance 1829-1830. Surveyor General of the Ordnance 1834-1835.

Aide De Camp to the King 1810. MP 1799-1802, 1803-1831, 1834-1837. KCB 1815. GCB 1834. Colonel of the 21st Light Dragoons 1818-1821, 17th Light Dragoons 1822-1829, 1st Dragoons 1829-1836, 4th Light Dragoons 1836-1842.
