Schon, Johann Karl Joseph von (1287).

Born on 11 March 1765 in Tempelburg (now Czaplinek, east of Stettin, Kreis Neustettin, in Poland; his father, Johann Joseph, was a major in the HusR von Belling Nr 8.On 16 May 1772, he entered Prussian military service as a cadet in Stolpen, and on 25 April 1776, he transferred to the officer cadet school in Berlin. On 1 March 1779, he was appointed Gfkpl in the IR von Hake Nr 8, and on 6 March 1780, he was promoted to Frch. On  23 June 1785, he was commissioned as Sklt; he served in the war in Poland in 1794. On 8 July 1794, he was promoted to Prlt; on 1 March 1795, he was promoted to Stkpt in the IR von Pirch Nr 8. On 1 February 1800, he was promoted to Kpt and Kiech in the IR von Rüts Nr 8. In the war of 1807/7 he fought at the battle of Preussisch-Eylau and in the clashes at Osterode, Mohrungen, Liebstadt, the Passarge River and Waltersdorf. On 8 October 1808, he was promoted to Maj (on half pay) and given command of the Pomeranian Gren Bn. On 2 February 1810, he was still on half pay but received a gift of Thlr 100 from the king. On 1 October 1811, he was appointed acting commander of the 1. Pommeranian IR Nr 2 and this post was confirmed on 2 March 1812. In the Wars of Liberation in 1813 – 1815 he fought in the clashes at Vehlitz-where he was wounded and won the EK II, Hoogstraten, Lier, Courtrai and Swewigheim and the battles of Gross-Beeren, Dennewitz (where he won the EK I), Leipzig, Ligny, the capture of Namur and the siege of Maubeuge. On 11 August 1813, he was promoted to Obstlt, and on 8 December 1813, he was promoted to Obst. On 13 February 1814, he was permitted to wear the Swedish Order of the Sword. On 31 May 1814, he was awarded the PLM. On 10 April 1815, he was appointed to command the 7. Bde, and on 12 December 1815, was appointed commandant of Graudenz fortress. On 10 December 1816, he was permitted to wear the Dutch OW III. On 30 March 1817, he was promoted to GM; he died in Graudenz on 9 June 1818, apparently still an active officer.
