Stutterheim, Karl August von (1203)

Born on 20 Sep 1759 in Lübben, Spreewald, south of Berlin; his father, Karl Wilhelm, was a major in the Saxon army. On 1 March 1773, he entered Prussian military service as Gfkpl in the IR von Bülow Nr 46, and on 1 March 1774 was promoted to Pfrch. On 1 January 1776, he was promoted to Frch; he served in the War of the Bavarian Succession against Austria in 1778/9, and on 17 January 1782, was commissioned as Sklt in the IR von Pfül Nr 46. On 6 August 1792 he was promoted to Stkpt; he fought in the Polish war of 1794, and on 14 September 1797, was promoted to Kpt and Kiech, in the IR von Courbiere Nr 58. On 5 July 1803, he was promoted to Maj. In the war of 1806/7 he fought in the clash at Christburg (?) and was captured. In January 1808, he was transferred to the 2. West Prussian IR Nr 7, and on 8 February 1812, was promoted to Obstlt. On 28 May 1813, he was given command of a brigade of Silesian LW and on 25 June, was promoted to Obst. On 1 July 1813, he was appointed to command the 11. Reserve IR (Nr 2 ); in the war of 1813 – 1814 he fought at Dennewitz and the siege of Antwerp. On 4 August 1813, he was appointed temporary brigade commander in von Bülow`s III Corps. On 21 October 1813, he was awarded the EK II for his actions at Dennewitz, and on 30 May 1814, he was promoted to GM; next day, he was awarded the PLM. On 3 May 1815, he was given command of the 20. Brigade in von Yorck`s V Corps. On 23 November 1815, he was appointed Inspector General of the LW in Silesia. On 22 February 1820, he was appointed commander of the 9.LW Brigade. He died on 9 June 1820 in Schweidnitz (now Swydnica), Silesia, Poland.
