On 17 April 1800 he was promoted to Rtmstr and ChEs; in the war of 1806/7 he fought at Heilsberg in the Prussian Avantgarde under General von Stutterheim. The general`s report of his actions went as follows:`Cosel hat in der Schlacht bei Heilsberg diejenigen beiden Eskadronen des Husaren-Regiment von Prittwitz ( Nr 5 DGS ) befehligt, welcher an dieser Bataille teilnahmen und nach dem wörtlichen Ausdruck des Generals der Kavallerie Bennigsen, sich mit Ruhm bedeckt. Cosel hat mit diesen zwei Eskadrons nicht nur verschiedene Angriffe auf französische Kavallerie gemacht und solche über den Haufen geworfen, sondern auch ein Bataillon Infanterie fast gänzlich in die Pfanne gehauen.`(In the battle of Heilsberg, Cosel commanded those two squadrons of the Hussar Regiment von Prittwitz, which took part in the battle and, in the words of General of cavalry Bennigsen, covered himself with glory. Cosel not only made several attacks on French cavalry with these squadrons and overthrew them, he also almost completely wrecked a battalion of infantry.)

For these deeds he received the PLM and the OStG. Cosel was mobilised for the Russian campaign in 1812 and was frequently mentioned in General von Yorck`s dispatches from Kurland, in Latvia. Details of his later career are unclear, but he commanded the 2. Leib-Hus-R from 1810 to 1813. The old HusR von Prittwitz became the Leib-Hus-R on 7 Sep 1808 and then was split into the 1. and 2. Leib-Hus-Rs on 20 December 1808.
