Czettritz und Neuhaus, Karl Heinrich Maximilian, Baron von (1388)

Born on 13 October 1773 in Weida, Saxony; his father, Heinrich Abraham, was Oberst and CO of the Saxon Kür R von Brenckenhoff. In 1785 Karl entered the service of the Saxon royal court in Dresden as Silberpage in the corps of pages; in 1789 he was commissioned into Saxon military service as Frch, KürR Kurfürst. On 25 March 1792 he was promoted to Slt. From 1793 – 1796 he served in the war against France on the Rhine, fighting at the battle of Kaiserslautern and the clashes of Uckerath, Wetzlar, Hermstedt and Bliescastel. In 1794 he transferred to the HusR and on 2 May 1798 was promoted to Prlt. In the war of 1806/7 he fought at the clash at Saalfeld and the battle of Jena. On 25 February 1807 he was promoted to Strtmstr and on 6 April 1809 to Rtmstr and made Kiech. In the 1809 campaign he fought in the clashes at Linz, where he was wounded, Strampfer and was very distinguished in the battle of Wagram, for which action he was awarded the Saxon Order of St Hubertus. On 2 December 1810 he was promoted to Maj. In 1812 he took part in the Russian campaign and fought in the clashes at Propeliany, Kolno, Nieswicz and Styr, where he was wounded again. On 18 October 1813 he went over to the allies at the battle of Leipzig, but was later reinstated in Saxon service. On 21 May 1814 he was promoted to Obstlt. In 1814 he fought at Claye. On 5 June 1815 he transferred from Saxon service to that of Prussia and in that year he fought at Nanteuil and Namur where he won the EK II. On 6 August 1815 he was promoted to Obst and appointed CO, 7.UlR. On 12 August 1815 he transferred to become CO of the 12 HusR. On 11 May 1816 he transferred again, as a supernumary officer, to the 11. HusR. On 1 February 1817 he became commander of 11.HusR. On 1 December 1823 he became commander of 2. Cav Bde; on 12 January 1824 he became commander of 15. Cav Bde. On 18 June 1825 he was promoted to GM. On 10 July 1825 he was awarded the Dienstkreuz and on 13 September 1825 he was awarded the RAO II. On 30 March 1828 he became GOC, 16.Cav Bde. On 19 March 1833 he was attached to the king`s suite. He died in Münster in Westphalia on 9 December 1865.
