Chartrand, René A brief overview of the volumes in the Men-at-Arms series written by René Chartrand... Chartrand, René & Courcelle, Patrice René Chartrand has been of late a prolific writer for Osprey and I do confess I eagerly wait for each new title he brings out... Coppens, Bernard & Courcelle, Patrice Coppens' style aims at reconstructing the way soldiers looked. The plates look a bit like card soldiers as they are all "at the ready." The real treat is that Coppens being a true historian and re-enactor he's gone to pains to understand what soldiers really wore. Elting, John R. and Knötel, Herbert Napoleonic Uniforms (2007
Edition)
Napoleonic Uniforms: The French
Army. (Vols. I and II.) &
Elting, John R. An excellent study of the uniforms of America by a dedicated group of experts... Forthoffer, Roger Forthoffer provided exceptional work especially on the uniforms of Naples, Italy, and Westphalia. A man obsessed with precision and accuracy, he would not settle for a middle-of-the-road approach. Fournol, Henri Recherche sur les Uniformes Etrangers de l'Empire (or RUEE, which is synonymous in French for "Rush") was a group of passionate collectors and amateurs assembled itself in 1972 and 1973. Their purpose was to organize the research around non-French units and their uniforms during the Napoleonic period. Hollins, Dave
Hourtoulle, Dr. F.G. Dr. F.G.Hourtoulle's Soldats et Uniformes du Premier Empire. Knötel, Herbert, and Elting, John R. These four volumes are a must for any historian, uniformologist, collector, and painter of military miniatures, or any enthusiast of the Napoleonic period. Maughan, Stephen E. I just hate when this happens: reviewing a book which is both pleasant in some parts to look at and with some good text, but also quite inadequate in many ways — ill fitting my own personal tastes. Nafziger, George A nine volume set of books has been published that focus on the military of the minor states who participated in the Napoleonic Wars. Rawkins, W. J. In the late 1970s and the early 1980s, W.J. Rawkins produced a series of uniform books on the various armies of the Napoleonic Wars. These books were unique because they covered most of the minor countries of the period. Rigo This series highlights special uniforms, flags, standards and banners of an army, which for a generation stunned the world. Rousselot, Lucien (paintings), Ryan, Edward (Text) A magnificent look by Rousselot, master illustrator of military uniforms, at the uniforms of the most colorful of Napoleon's soldiers, the elite cavalry units... Rousselot, Lucien (paintings), Ryan, Edward (Text) Superb illustrations by Rousselot of Napoleon's Imperial Guard cavalry... Rousselot, Lucien Each plate is in full color, size 32X24 cms folded opened up 32X48, with 4 page text included. Original plates were colored by hand-stencil. A first reprint was done as of 1978, but only for the 1st Empire period plates. A second reprint was done as of 1982 by "Le Hussard du Marais," a model soldier shop operating out of the Marais district in Paris. The purpose was to complement the first reprint. Due to the lack of success, this series was never completed. Umhey, Alfred.
