1998 Literary Awards Announced

By J. David Markham

Ten excellent books were submitted to the 1998 Literary Committee (David Chandler, Robert Holtman, David Markham, Jeanne Ojala, John Severn, and Donald Horward). The following awards have been made:

First Prize ($2500): David Gates, The Napoleonic Wars, 1803-1815 (Arnold Publishers and St. Martin's Press)

Second Prize ($1500): Ronald Ridley, Napoleon's Proconsul in Egypt: The Life and Times of Bernardino Drovetti (London: Rubicon Press)

The Academic Literary Awards are for the two best published articles written by graduate students. The prizes are $500 each:

Mary Katherine Cooney, "Madame de Montesquieu and the King of Rome"

Michael Jones, "Franco-Austrian Diplomacy: Andreossy in Vienna"

Each of these publications has met the rigorous criteria established by the Literary Committee and represent a significant contribution to the study of the Napoleonic period. The INS takes great pleasure in congratulating each of these scholars on their commitment and achievement.
