The 1802 Uniform Plates of Friedrich Ludwig von KoellerIn the University and Darmstadt Federal State Library is this very
beautiful uniform series, which was printed in the year 1802 in Kiel
- at that time in Danish territory . The author of the series, Friedrich
Ludwig von Koeller, had already published before it an extensive uniform
series on Danish troops with 28 illustrations. In its dedication to
Prince Carl of Hesse, at that time a Danish field marshal, he mentions
the success of the first Danish series. Only 10 illustrations were originally
published. The missing illustration numbers would permit the possible
inclusion of other uniforms at a later date. These rare illustrations
are of a special interest, because they show the early phase of the
Napoleonic uniforms of many different armies, with an abundance of high
detail. These drawings originally appeared on line in German by our partner, Napoleon Online and are used with permission of the Universitts- und Landesbibliothek Darmstadt. Please note that Markus Stein holds the copyright on all of these images.
