The Grodno Hussars were raised in the immediate aftermath of the 1805 campaign, and went on to serve with distinction in East Prussia in 1807, Finland and Sweden in 1808-1809, with Wittgenstein’s independent I Corps in 1812, and all the way from Tauroggen to Paris in 1813-1814. According to Count Wittgenstein, from 1812 to 1814, the regiment fought in 30 pitched battles and 50 vanguard/rearguard actions, suffered 1,200 killed, severely wounded or missing in action/prisoners of war, yet took a total of 13,150 enemy prisoners of war alone!
