Buchan, John  (17** - 1850)

Ensign Scotch Brigade* 1795, Lieutenant Scotch Brigade* 1795, Captain 2nd Ceylon Regiment 1802, Major 2nd Ceylon Regiment 1804, Lieutenant-Colonel 4th West India Regiment 1809, Brevet Colonel 1819, Major General 1830, Lieutenant General 1841.

* renamed 94th Foot.

Served in Portuguese Service 1811-1814. Promoted Colonel 22nd Infantry Regiment 1811,  Brigadier 1813, Major General 1815. 

Early Service: India 1799-1802 and Seringapatam 1799, Ceylon 1802, West Indies 1809 and capture of Guadaloupe.

Peninsular War: Commanded Portuguese Militia 1811-1813.  Commanded a brigade Portuguese Army 1813-1814.

Other Service: On Home Staff 1838.

Knighted 1816. CB 1815. KCB 1831. Colonel of  the 95th Foot 1838-1843, 32nd Foot 1843-1850.
