Napoleon’s Nobles

Napoleon’s nobility began in 1806 with the creation of Princes. Beginning in 1807, added to the lists were Dukes and finally in 1808 the titles of Count, Baron, and Chevalier of the Empire was created. During the course of 1806 to 1814 seven princes were created thirty-six Dukes, three hundred and eighty-eight Counts, one thousand and ninety Barons and one thousand six hundred Chevaliers. While many of the recipients were not military, the vast majority were and varied in rank from General de Division to Sous-Lieutenant.
