The Quarter-Master-General’s Department was responsible for equipment, quartering, routes, and disposition of formations in the army. At the army level it consisted of the Quarter-Master-General, a Deputy Quarter-Master-General, Assistant Quarter-Master-Generals, and Deputy Assistant Quarter-Master-Generals. A division would have an Assistant Quarter-Master-General, and a Deputy Assistant Quarter-Master-General assigned to it.
